Performance marketing at Sunday Treat - campaign creative on set

Performance Marketing: where the creative finds its audience

If success is 70% creative and 30% performance marketing, then this is the 30% that makes sure the rest of the work actually finds a home. There is no point in having a clever, expertly crafted campaign if it's just shouting into a void.

Performance marketing at Sunday Treat isn't about just buying Meta ads to support an OOH campaign: It's the engine that tells your story in the right order, to the right people, at the right time.

Ad Spend & Media Planning Strategy

We want to make sure every pound or dollar you spend is used correctly and across the right media. We build a custom roadmap for your budget to ensure your work is seen where it matters most. We keep up with media trends and employ clever strategies across targeting demographics, geofencing & A/B testing to ensure we’re getting the most out of your ad spend.

Tracking, Creative Iteration & Retargeting

Performance marketing is a fluid process where the strategy constantly needs to evolve as the content is performing. We’re constantly checking what’s working, ensuring the creative is fully optimised for the specific platform it’s on. If a certain hook isn't landing, we tweak the edit and go again. We use retargeting to stay top-of-mind throughout the viewer's journey and instead of just repeating the same ad we iterate the story - keeping the conversation going throughout the buying cycle.

Proving ROAS with Campaign KPIs

At the end of the day, we know you need to see results. By obsessing over your specific KPIs, we’re able to prove your Return on Ad Spend (ROAS). We provide clear, honest reporting that shows exactly how creative is driving real business growth.

Performance as a Partnership

To us, performance marketing isn't just a technical service: it’s a commitment to your success. We work as an extension of your team, making sure we’re hitting the marks we set together during onboarding.

Most performance marketing agencies think of creative as an afterthought. They get bogged down in the data, the numbers, the A/B testing, and don't spend enough time thinking about good creative. The truth is a campaign's success is 70% the creative and 30% how it's actually put out into the world. Get great creative and everything else becomes a lot easier - I don't think you can get good performance results without it.

Our rule: creative earns its ad spend

We have a philosophy most agencies would find uncomfortable: we don't recommend putting ad spend behind an asset until it has proven itself organically. Only when a video has shown it resonates do we put money behind it. It's the single best protection a brand has against burning budget on creative that was never going to work.

It's also why a creative agency runs performance marketing at all. Making great creative wasn't enough - we needed to know it was performing, that clients were getting a real return, and that commissioning content was a decision worth repeating. So we upskilled the whole team on how ad spend actually works, what makes an asset native to each channel, and what the back end looks like for clients. Creative and performance in one room, checking each other's work.

The question to ask any performance agency (that nobody asks)

"What's your plan for creative?"

To get performance marketing that works, you either need an agency that takes creative seriously, or two separate agencies, creative and performance, working genuinely closely together. Where it falls down is the middle case: a performance-led agency that treats creative as an afterthought. In that setup, it's never going to work, no matter how sophisticated the media buying is.

Ask the question early. If the answer is a media plan with a creative line item at the bottom, keep looking.

FAQs

Because making great creative wasn't enough - we needed to understand how it performed for clients, prove the return on investment, and make sure commissioning content was a decision worth repeating. Over the past few years we've upskilled the whole team on performance: what makes assets work natively on each channel, how ad spend works, what the client's back end actually looks like. The result is creative and performance designed together rather than bolted on afterwards.

No - and we'd push back if asked to. Our rule is that an asset proves itself organically before we recommend spend behind it. If something isn't resonating without money, money rarely fixes it; it just makes the lesson more expensive. We'd rather iterate the creative first and scale what's already working.

Against the KPIs we set together at onboarding - clearly and honestly, including when something underperforms. You'll see what was spent, what it returned (ROAS), and what we're changing next. Performance marketing is a fluid process, so reporting is a working conversation, not a monthly PDF that nobody reads.

Very precise. Beyond the usual demographic and interest targeting, we use geofencing to reach people based on where they have physically been. On a tax-app launch, for example, we served ads to people who had recently passed through Liverpool Street station, right where the campaign's out-of-home was running. We also A/B test our hooks from the start, because what actually resonates is often not what you would expect, so we let the data decide where the budget goes.

They treat the creative as an afterthought and disappear into the dashboard, getting bogged down in numbers and A/B tests instead of spending real time on the idea. In our experience the creative does most of the heavy lifting, so we start there: get that right and everything downstream gets easier. Great targeting can't rescue forgettable creative, and we've seen plenty of budgets prove it.

Ask what their actual plan is for the creative. You either want a performance agency that takes creative seriously, or a separate creative and performance agency that work really closely together. The setup that tends to fail is a data-led shop where creative is an afterthought, because no amount of optimisation fixes an asset nobody wants to watch.
