The Project
We headed out onto the street with King to make a series of social-first interviews celebrating Candy Crush. The idea was pretty simple really. Talk to real people, ask them about a game they genuinely love, and see what happens. No scripts, no casting agency, just whoever was up for a chat that day. Some people were instantly in, some needed a bit of convincing, and a few flat-out ran away, which honestly is all part of it.
The Challenge
Street casting is never straightforward. You’re asking strangers to stop what they’re doing, talk to someone they’ve never met, and do it all on camera. Then you do it again. And again. All day. Keeping the energy up when you’ve heard “sorry, I’m late” for the hundredth time is harder than it looks. We also needed everything to feel fun and fast for socials, which meant there was no room for awkward pauses or low-energy moments.
Insight + Strategy
The biggest thing we got right was the people. We chose a presenter who could chat to literally anyone, the kind of person who makes strangers feel like they’ve known them for years within about ten seconds. The crew were just as important. Everyone knew their role inside out, which meant we could move quickly without it ever feeling stressful. Even when the streetcasting got relentless and the weather wasn’t playing ball, the atmosphere stayed light and upbeat. That energy rubbed off on the contributors, and once people relaxed, the best stuff started to happen. Offhand comments, little jokes, unexpected answers. The bits you can’t plan for but secretly hope you’ll get.
