Local Travel

The Project
Working in collaboration with Wildish & Co and KLM, we had a complex but exciting challenge: show UK travellers they could reach the world from their local airport without the hassle of flying from London. The campaign needed to shift perceptions around connecting flights and elevate KLM above budget airline noise.At the heart of our response was a premium 30-second hero film, designed to be the linchpin of a wider multi-channel rollout. We led full video production from concept to delivery, creating an asset that would not only look world-class, but also flex across VOD, social, display, and OOH.
Challenge
Most travellers think “big trip = big airport.” Our challenge was to rewire that assumption. KLM’s global network could be accessed from regional UK airports with a seamless hop via Amsterdam but consumers weren’t aware, or worse, were put off by the idea of connections.
We needed to:
- Tell a complex story simply and emotionally
- Avoid sounding too corporate or salesy
- Compete visually with big-brand airline comms
- Create a hero video that could be versioned out across formats and markets all within a smart budget
From a production perspective, this meant designing a shoot that felt international and aspirational, while being logistically lean and highly adaptable in post.

The Solution
We brought to life the tagline “Travel far, from where you are” through a visually striking 30-second hero film. The concept asked: What would you do if distance were no object? … then answered it with cinematic moments that connected local UK life to far-flung destinations.
To keep ambitious destinations and complete control, we opted for a virtual production approach - shooting in a volumetric LED studio and creating all the backgrounds from scratch. We handled all elements of production, from casting and location sourcing through to post and delivery. Key to the success of the video was a nimble shoot structure that allowed us to capture multiple environments (UK domestic + global-feel locations) across a tight schedule.
On set, we:
- Designed a modular narrative with clean in/out points to allow easy cutdowns for 6s, 15s, and social-first formats
- Used in-camera transitions and clever match cuts to create a seamless feeling of movement from local to global
- Directed with a premium travel aesthetic from lensing choices to wardrobe to position KLM as the sophisticated alternative
- Delivered multiple aspect ratios and platform-specific versions from a single edit, maximising production value and ROI
The final film ran as Video on Demand, was adapted across KLM’s European markets, and became the benchmark for how to communicate global access from regional hubs with clarity and charm.
