Asda – Taste Match

The Project

We wanted to prove that Asda's quality was as good as Marks & Spencer's but at a cheaper price. We used guerilla marketing tactics by setting up our "Asda Taste Test" outside M&S in Leeds and inviting shoppers to blind taste test two products. We captured the energy of the day and cut together 5 videos, which were used across Asda's paid and organic social channels.

Challenge

Our core challenge was to entice real shoppers to take the Asda taste test. We could then capture their genuine, authentic reactions to the different food items, helping us honestly reflect the quality that Asda was able to match M&S on.

Insight + Strategy

We recognised that having eyes watching every part of the stand was the only way to guarantee genuine reactions. Therefore, we split our camera teams into multiple crews covering different parts of the stand and capturing visitors at various stages. We extensively used action cameras for situations where a lower profile might help relax our contributors. To top it off, we produced a fast-paced, quick edit that added excitement and gamified the content, keeping our audiences watching.
